I tell Jowanda6 I like her beehive. Her graying hair is teased into
a high up-do. She’s wearing black plastic frames, a red lipstick that
tinges purple, and a denim shirt, sitting in front of a wall papered
with 50s stars. I am grateful for her aesthetic, I later realize,
believing it must mark other things we share. But her lips curl as she
reads my message. Her eyes roll. Is it not okay, I wonder, to comment
on the way a psychic looks? Is it that I’ve called out a black woman’s
hair? Sorry, I type, just really into yr style! — So many unhip psychics.
Guest please register she responds to an apparent lurker, ignoring me.

It doesn’t occur to me that without a face, I could be jerking off
onto my keys. It doesn’t occur to me that she can sense I am recording.
She faces away from the screen, head wrapping over her shoulder,
shoulders tensing, searching the room, singing along to a song
I can’t hear, or telling herself I’ll leave soon. Can I ask you a question?
I ask, I don’t know why. She continues to ignore me.

unicorn212: can I just ask you what a black scrying
mirror is?
unicorn212: sorry I was wack – I just meant u look like a person
I could ta
unicorn212: lk to
unicorn212: talk
unicorn212: r u getting bad vibes from me?
unicorn212: really sorry for sending you bad vibes

I imagine men masturbating to this video. I imagine it
sounds like: chair legs scraping a floor, stretching a cheap balloon,
tired horses, hands warming in winter, a jackhammer in a vacuum.
I imagine clay faces wrung. Mouths reaching to ears. I imagine the
whites of eyes. A noise like a punch. The space bar sticky, again.

I imagine the dungeons laughing at this video. I imagine it
looks like kindergarten dreams of sadomasochism. In a six-yearold’s
utopia only the pretty colors leave the box. Only the pretty
colors shrink to stubs. Does Rihanna know? Here are rainbows you
could plug into a circuit of force and reap the benefits without the
bruises of a flog.

“Namaste” the ad begins. We’re in a yoga studio, close up on the teacher in spandex, wearing a necklace with a pendant of the Whole Earth. She’s young. She’s radiant in that graceful way. Then, we’re in the inside of her car, looking over her control center dashboard, GPS navigating her over the Golden Gate Bridge. Cut to: wide shot of her husband in a glass enclosed robotics lab, the skinny, genteel type, photo of the Whole Earth in the background. Cut to: the yoga instructor walking through a long, open form office. Her husband spots her through the glass, beckons her inside. “Want to see something?” He asks. She nods. He presses a button, which initiates a countdown. 10, 9, 8, 7… Meanwhile he reaches into his pocket, she into her purse. They each puff on an e-cig… 4, 3, 2, 1. Black screen. Then: Vuse E-Cigarettes and E-Cig Organic. Rise from the ashes.
